Editorial Standards
This site is intended to support Australia’s health workforce with information about acute rheumatic fever (ARF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) that is relevant, appropriate, and accessible.
Cultural framework
Information on this site is co-designed with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander advisors within a cultural safety framework. This framework provides a focus on the importance of culture, and places people with ARF and RHD and their needs and preferences at the centre of care. We recognise that information about the loss of health and human life can have profound impact and sadness for people, families, community and culture. We hope that the numbers stories will supplement the lived stories that reflect the voices of people with RHD and their families.
Our review process
The information on our webpages and associated clinical content is based on best practice recommendations and guidelines for the prevention, diagnosis, and management of ARF and RHD within the Australian context. Content is fact-checked by members of our review team to ensure consistency with content and messaging. International content and content for international audiences is reviewed in line with best practice in the place of origin.
Information sources
We rely on academic research institutions, government agencies, and medical associations in Australia for up-to-date information about ARF and RHD, including the findings from recent research. We are also informed by several international organisations that provide global leadership, advocacy and information relating to ARF and RHD.
Staying current
Clinical information is updated when new information becomes available, and is also prompted by
- changes in standards of care reflected in the Australian clinical guideline.
- new national and international evidence-based recommendations.
- consumer feedback.
